Aston Villa have not had an easy transfer window with severe monetary problems limiting them massively so far this summer.

Having borrowed money to pay for the club's wage bill, they are in a position where they need to be very careful with who they buy this summer.

They have already missed out on signing their goalkeeper of the last two seasons, Sam Johnstone, who has gone on loan to West Brom from Manchester United.

So a shot-stopper will be high on the list of manager Steve Bruce when it comes to bringing in new faces.

One goalkeeper who still remains unclaimed is former Newcastle United and Brighton player Tim Krul.

Krul rose to prominence at the Magpies during their first season back in the Championship in 2010/11 after relegation in 2009 and went on to make 185 appearances for the club.

His move to Brighton was significantly less successful making just five appearances before being released at the end of the season.

But a man of Krul's experience would surely still be of use in the Championship.

So should cash-strapped Villa make a move for the free agent?

We discuss...

Louie Chandler

This is perfect for Villa but they need to move now to secure him.

Free agents of Krul's calibre do not come around often and with the club in their current state they are all the more important.

He will not be as good as Sam Johnstone but will be good enough.

Jay Williams

Yes, if they can finance this deal, Krul would be a great replacement for Sam Johnstone.

Aston Villa are currently looking at either Mark Bunn or Jed Steer between the sticks and Krul would be an upgrade on their current options.

The Dutchman is experienced and would provide a solid option for Steve Bruce next season.

Gary Hutchinson

If they can afford him. I guess that is what is being said about all of their business this summer.

Tim Krul is a good keeper and he'll do a job wherever hie goes, but it won't be hard for clubs to outbid Villa.

Jay Taylor

If Villa did not have mounting financial issues, Tim Krul would be a fantastic signing.

If it happened it would be a surprise considering the goalkeeper would be on Premier League wages and Villa are on a cost cutting exercise.

They should go after him but it’s doubtful they will be able to afford the keeper in the current climate.

A move could happen if the heavy hitters in-terms of wages are off the book to free up some of the budget.
