Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer looks ready to make a move to try and sign Tottenham Hotspur starlet Troy Parrott on loan until the end of the season, according to a report by the Daily Star.

The Addicks boss has been determined to bolster his ranks before his side enter the business end of the season, with Bowyer bound to be hoping that the chance to play regular first-team football will be appealing to the 17-year-old.

So would Parrott be a good signing by the Addicks, is he needed and would he get into the starting XI?

"He would be a decent signing.

"Firstly, there's no doubt he is incredibly talented and potentially could go on to be a top player in the Premier League, so that's why fans should be excited.

"And, it's an area that Charlton are short on, particularly with doubts about Lyle Taylor's future. Therefore, bringing in a new option up top has to be a priority this week and Parrott could make a big difference moving forward.

"However, despite the reasons for positivity, it's still a risk. The Addicks need someone who can come in to make an instant impact and that will be rough for the teenager. He hasn't played games at this level before and it's a big step up from U23 games. He would probably start on the bench and then it's up to the player to force his way in."

“Charlton fans would like their club to sign just about anyone by now. They became one of the richest clubs in the EFL at the start of the month, but more than three weeks into the transfer window and their sole signing remains the loan-acquisition of Andre Green from Aston Villa.

“Troy Parrott looks a decent player. The Spurs forward is just 17-years-old and only has two first-team appearances to his name, and one Republic of Ireland cap too. He’d be a useful signing, no doubt, but is Lee Bowyer really going to bring in a youngster like Parrott when their star striker Lyle Taylor could be on his way out?

“It’s far from the marquee signing that Charlton fans are so desperate to see, and I don’t think Parrott would play all that much football either. The club has introduced so many of its own youngsters this season, Bowyer is unlikely to halt the development of them to give Parrott a chance in the first-team.

“It’s not a signing that’s needed either. Even if Taylor does depart then Charlton still have Macauley Bonne and Tomer Hemed. Charlton need a creative spark in the middle of the pitch, and an experienced, level-headed one at that. Not a 17-year-old Spurs striker who’s played three professional matches in his career.”

"I could see this being a decent signing for Charlton.

"Having been dogged by injuries upfront recently and with uncertainty continuing around the future of Lyle Taylor, they may well need to add to their options upfront in what remains of this window.

"With that in mind, the addition of someone such as Parrott, who certainly looks to have plenty of potential given he is already getting games for Tottenham's first-team at the age of 17, could be a useful addition for Lee Bowyer's side.

"Indeed, with Charlton having put plenty of faith in younger players this season, Parrott ought to be confident of enjoying some regular first-team action should he head to The Valley for the remainder of the season, meaning this is a move that could well be tempting for the teenager."
