Derby County have expressed an interest in signing free agent Ravel Morrison, according to Football Insider.

The 27-year-old is currently a free agent having recently had his contract cancelled in Holland with ADO Den Haag.

Morrison made only five appearances for the Dutch outfit, and previously played in England for Sheffield United, featuring only four times.

According to Football Insider, Wayne Rooney is interested in luring Morrison to Pride Park. Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield Town, as well as Turkish sides, have also been credited with an interest.

Here, we discuss the Rams' reported interest in the midfielder...

How many chances is Ravel going to get?

Morrison has become almost a worldwide journeyman in recent years, with his career taking him to Holland, Mexico, Italy and Sweden, and he's failed to make a regular impact in any of those countries, including when he returned to England with Middlesbrough and Sheffield United.

I don't think anyone doubts Morrison's natural footballing ability, but it seems to be the application of it that the 27-year-old struggles with, and what Derby need to get out of a relegation battle is strong characters and passionate players.

Unfortunately Morrison is not that. There's a case to argue perhaps that playing under Wayne Rooney could help him get his head down and focus, but it's not a risk worth taking at this stage.

How does Ravel Morrison keep getting linked with good clubs?

The former Manchester United man is undoubtedly a talent, but let's get this straight, he's not got what it takes to thrive in the game.

Barring a few good matches for West Ham and QPR he has fallen short of expectations at every club that he's been to.

In my opinion, this would be a daft move.

Of course there will be some who think that Wayne Rooney can be the man to get him back to his best but why will Rooney be able to do something that so many others have failed to do?

Derby need to be signing reliable players and while it may sound harsh, Morrison is arguably one of the least reliable players going.

Morrison knowing Rooney could help him settle, but it doesn’t shrink the size of the risk that comes with signing the midfielder.

Morrison, as we all know, is supremely talented and has the ability to unlock a game in a second.

However, he’s not nearly been close enough to his best level for years now and that underlines a massive risk for Derby.

The only thing I can say that might make this deal a success is Rooney. That’s a familiar face there and someone who Morrison can look to and give him his all.

Whether that will happen or not, I’m really not convinced.
