Nottingham Forest secured the signing of Newcastle striker Daryl Murphy in the summer transfer window in a £2m deal.

The 34-year-old has made 13 appearances for Forest so far this season, notching six goals.

The former Ipswich Town forward has to compete with Jason Cummings for the number 9 role at the City Ground, but the experienced Murphy is being selected more often than not by Mark Warburton.

Has he been a good signing for Forest?

When Forest signed Murphy over the summer, my initial thought was that it was a great signing for Mark Warburton’s side.

The Irish striker has consistently scored goals in the Championship over recent years, and his early days at Forest have indicated that he will do the same this season.

Murphy is not Britt Assombalonga’s long-term replacement at the City Ground, but for now, he is proving to be worth every penny Forest paid.

George Dagless

Absolutely.

The Reds have been very good going forward and Murphy's goal-record has highlighted the fact that he has been an astute acquisition.

For all Forest's good young players, a little bit more experience is going to be needed and adding Murphy's years in the game looks to be proving a superb move from Mark Warburton.

Chris Gallagher

Yes, without a doubt.

The big striker scores goals and has six to his name already this season. You know what you are going to get with the Irish international, and he is very effective.

His age means it was a short-term signing from Forest, but it is paying off already. A smart move from Warburton.
