Once again this summer, Wolves have sent shock-waves through the Football League after breaking the Championship transfer record for the second successive season.

As well as the arrival of teenage sensation Ruben Neves from FC Porto, Wolves have made a number of notable summer acquisitions including Diogo Jota and Alfred N'Diaye as the revolution at Molineux continues.

Under the management of Nuno Espirito Santo, the Portuguese manager appears to have a clear idea of how he wants to shape this Wolves side.

However, despite making some excellent signings, there are still a few gaps in Wolves' squad that Espirito Santo was unable to plug before the transfer window closed.

Whilst the transfer window has now shut, there are still a number of unattached players who could add depth and quality to Wolves' squad, if given the opportunity.

Giuseppe Rossi

Giuseppe Rossi

Following the departure of Nouha Dicko on Deadline Day to Hull City and the subsequent sales of Paul Gladon and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, Wolves have been left short in the striker department.

There appeared to be a deal in place for PSV Eindhoven striker Jurgen Locadia who would've provided that cover, however, the Dutch side pulled the plug on the deal.

Whilst Leo Bonatini has been excellent leading the line for Wolves so far this season, Wolves now seem exposed as they run the risk that the Brazilian striker could pick up an injury which would leave Nuno Espirito Santo with a selection conundrum.

Despite the Portuguese manager being unable to find ample cover during the summer transfer window, there may still be an opportunity for Wolves to find a striker as cover as a number of players remain unattached.

One player who could be on Wolves' radar is Giuseppe Rossi.

The former Manchester United and Fiorentina striker was released by Celta Vigo this summer.

A move for the 30-year-old striker would be a risk considering that he's injured until November, however, he could provide a boost for the crucial winter months.

It would be a hugely ambitious signing by Wolves and they have already shown that this summer, they're more than capable of competing with anyone financially.

Jan Kirchhoff

Whilst at the moment, a settled midfield of the highly-talented Ruben Neves and hard-working Romain Saiss appears to be the perfect combination, over the course of a forty-six game season, Espirito Santo will need other options to call upon.

On Deadline Day, Alfred N'Diaye arrived on a season-long loan from Villarreal.

However, Espirito Santo may feel that he needs a fourth midfield option to call upon, in case of injury or suspension.

A free agent that may interest Wolves is former Bayern Munich and Schalke star Jan Kirchhoff, the German midfielder could be the perfect option for Espirito Santo.

The versatile 26-year-old can play a number of positions including the anchoring role at the base of midfield or as a central defender which could see him slot into Espirito Santo's 3-4-3 system well.

Following his departure from Sunderland in the summer, he was expected to remain in England but a move did not materialise, Molineux could potentially be his next destination.
