Compared to previous transfer windows at Aston Villa, this summer transfer window was subdued as Steve Bruce placed an emphasis on quality and experience rather than sheer quantity.

The most notable arrival for Aston Villa this summer was John Terry who made the decision to drop down to the Championship to join up with Steve Bruce.

Other notable signings saw the likes of Robert Snodgrass arrive from West Ham United and also Ahmed Elmohamedy from Hull City, which further added experience and leadership into the spine of the side.

However, despite making some excellent signings, there still appears to be some gaps in Aston Villa's squad that Steve Bruce has failed to plug.

Whilst the transfer window has now shut, there are still a number of unattached players who could provide the necessary cover if given the opportunity.

Benoît Trémoulinas

Despite a very impressive performance from Mitch Clark in Aston Villa's 4-1 victory over Wigan Athletic in the Carabao Cup second round, Aston Villa are short of cover for the left-back position.

Beyond Neil Taylor, Aston Villa severely lack natural left-back cover and Steve Bruce was unable to find the necessary cover during the summer transfer window.

Whilst Mitch Clark has shown that he can provide some cover when called upon, it isn't the 18-year-old's natural position. Instead, Bruce may look at a free agent to plug the gap.

One player who may be of interest to Aston Villa is Benoît Trémoulinas. The 31-year-old former French international is unattached after leaving Sevilla in the summer.

Even though the fact that Trémoulinas is currently injured, the Frenchman would offer a wealth of experience and serious competition for the left-back position as a solution to one of Aston Villa's weaker areas.

Cheick Diabate

Despite the emergence of Keinan Davis in the absence of Jonathan Kodjia, Aston Villa are still short of an experienced centre-forward to provide cover.

Whilst Aston Vila do have Scott Hogan, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Ross McCormack to call upon, Steve Bruce doesn't appear have confidence in his current attacking options.

Steve Bruce could turn to the free agent market to find his striker cover.

he Malian forward scored fourteen times last season before being released by the Turkish side Osmanlispor.

As a low-cost risk-free option, the powerful Malian striker could provide Steve Bruce with additional firepower as an alternative to Jonathan Kodjia who will be re-finding his match fitness and sharpness that he had prior to his injury at the end of last season.
