Brighton and Hove Albion missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of the Sky Bet Championship table last night, as they suffered defeat to Huddersfield Town.

The Yorkshire club ran out 3-1 winners, in what was a comfortable night for David Wagner’s side.

Brighton could not handle Huddersfield’s early pressure, and conceded inside ten-minutes, Tommy Smith scoring for Town.

Chris Hughton’s side levelled shortly after, with Tomer Hemed scoring for the Seagulls.

Two goals just before half-time from Nahki Wells and Elias Kachunga, put Huddersfield out of sight.

There was more misery for Brighton during the second-half as they lost defender Lewis Dunk to a red card.

Despite the defeat, Hughton’s side remain top of the table heading into the weekend.

They will however be overtaken by Newcastle United on Saturday, so long as the Magpies avoid defeat against Derby County.

Brighton are next in action on Sunday, where they travel to Brentford.
