Aston Villa, Derby and Sheffield Wednesday are facing potential sanctions over breaching FFP regulations following Birmingham's point deduction.

They were hit with an immediate nine-point penalty yesterday which leaves Garry Monk's men just five points ahead of the relegation zone.

More importantly, the landmark case has now set a precedent moving forward and the Daily Mail have revealed the trio of Championship clubs are all going to be coming under 'serious scrutiny'.

It's well-known that the three sides have been big spenders over the years which has seen them break the rules and they could face a similar punishment to Birmingham if found guilty.

Meanwhile, Blues are sure to be interested in the case as they look for fellow clubs to be treated in the same way.

The report also states that Villa could have to explain losses of around £60m which is far greater than the £39m you are allowed to lose over a three-year period.

However, promotion would prevent any sanctions such as points deductions and all three clubs will believe that they have a shot at returning to the Premier League this season.

The Verdict

This was inevitable after the ruling on Birmingham and it really will be a worry to so many Championship clubs.

Those behind the decision have to show a consistency and it's hard not to see points deductions for many in the future, although it should be noted part of Blues' punishment was for ignoring a soft embargo.

Either way, the bar has been set now and it's going to be very interesting to see how this plays out.
