Italian giants AC Milan have allegedly entered the race to sign Wolves star Ruben Neves

Italian outlet Calciomercato, as reported by Birmingham Live, claim the 21-year old is being considered for a switch to the San Siro as Milan look to build a top-three side in Serie A next season.

The move is reportedly the master plan of agent Jorge Mendes, whom the paper reports is considering the possibility of striking a lucrative deal with Gennaro Gattuso's side.

However, there are stumbling blocks which might hinder any progress. Milan are in serious danger of missing out on European football this season, and they are required to fulfil certain Financial Fair Play commitments before making significant moves for players.

Milan is the current club of Wolves target Andre Silva, a player whose initial links with the Molineux side caused shock last year. With their promotion to the Premier League, those links now look more likely too.

Neves is likely to be the subject of intense speculation all through the summer, with Liverpool, Manchester United and Spurs hoping to land the explosive midfielder. All three could offer him some level of European football, as well as the continuity of remaining in England.

The Verdict

Another team enters the transfer saga shocker. This is to be expected throughout the summer I feel, but I'm not convinced his destination will be Italy.

The only reason he might go there is either in a swap deal with Silva, or if Mendes starts pulling a few strings, but he's worked in Wolves favour recently and I can't see that changing now they're in the top flight.
