Norwich City could face a battle to keep hold of technical director Stuart Webber, with Southampton keen on recruiting the 34-year-old.

The Saints recently parted company with Les Reed who occupied a similar role with the Premier League club and are on the lookout for a replacement.

And, according to the Telegraph, they have identified Webber as an ideal candidate following the impressive work he has done in recent years.

Prior to joining the Canaries, he was a key part of Huddersfield's transformation that ultimately led to a surprise promotion to the Premier League.

Webber appointed David Wagner who has brought huge success to the Terriers since he arrived at the Yorkshire club.

Such work prompted Norwich to move for the technical director and he has overseen major changes in the Norfolk side too.

He was behind the somewhat risky appointment of Daniel Farke whilst the club's recruitment strategy has changed too but it is beginning to pay off.

Despite losing key players such as James Maddison and Josh Murphy in the summer, and making a huge profit, Farke's men currently lead the way in the Championship heading into the international break.

The Verdict

You only have to look at the work Webber has done in the past few years at both Huddersfield and Norwich to understand why he is in-demand.

Given that, the Yellows should be desperate to keep him at the club as whilst the players and management deserve huge credit for their position, he has been a reason behind it too.

It may be hard to prevent Webber moving up if a serious offer comes in but he will be sorely missed if he does go.
