Cardiff City are reportedly interested in signing Aston Villa forward Tammy Abraham, according to reports from the Mirror via Birmingham Mail.

The Chelsea loanee has been on fire for Villa this season, netting 12 goals in 17 appearances for the Championship side since arriving on loan from Stamford Bridge in the summer, spearheading Villa well up the table.

However, whilst manager Dean Smith still remains unknown whether the 21-year old forward will be with Villa after the January transfer window, reports have recently surfaced that Neil Warnock's Cardiff have joined Roy Hodgson's Crystal Palace in the race to land the prolific forward.

This isn't the first time that Warnock has wanted to sign Abraham for Cardiff - in an interview back in September, Warnock told the Evening Standard: "I wanted Tammy Abraham from day one. I spoke to Eddie Newton (Chelsea’s loan player technical coach) about it, but he ended up at Aston Villa."

“I was really disappointed they didn’t even come back to me. I thought I at least deserved a phone call saying ‘sorry Neil, he’s not joining."

After their 2-2 home draw with Stoke City at the weekend, Villa sit 8th in the Sky Bet Championship table, three points off the playoff places after 22 league games.

The Verdict

If Chelsea have any sense then they won't re-call Abraham from his loan at Villa and send him to Cardiff. Whilst he's in this kind of form, what's the point in recalling him? He's enjoying his football, he's improving as a player, and a move to Cardiff could really halt his progress. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens.
