Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert has confirmed that Kane Vincent-Young could be set to out of action for a prolonged period of time having picked up a fresh injury.

The defender, who joined the Tractor Boys for an undisclosed fee in August from Colchester United, recently had surgery on a groin issue that he picked up in the club's clash with Southend United last month.

Yet having recovered from this particular issue, Vincent-Young would have been hoping to make his return to action over the Christmas period.

However, the 23-year-old has now suffered a new muscular injury which could rule him out for months, according to Lambert.

In Vincent-Young's absence last night, Ipswich were held to a 0-0 draw by League One leaders Wycombe Wanderers at Portman Road.

After having a goal disallowed for offside in the first-half of the clash, the Tractor Boys had to turn to goalkeeper Tomas Holy for inspiration in the second-period as the former Gillingham man saved Joe Jacobson's penalty.

Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times after the game about Vincent-Young, Lambert said: "Kane is going to be out for a right long time.

"I've just found out myself, but he's going to be out for a while.

"It's a different injury to what he had.

"It's up in the abductor area.

"That's going to be a bit of a blow.

"It will be a few months I think."

The Verdict

When you consider just how impressive Vincent-Young was during the opening months of the season for Ipswich, the news that he will be out of action for a prolonged period of time is a huge blow.

As well being a fantastic reader of the game in a defensive sense, the full-back has also illustrated a willingness to attack which has resulted in him providing three direct goal contributions in League One.

With Vincent-Young being forced to watch from the sidelines, Lambert may have to turn to Janoi Donacien who has delivered a number of promising performances in recent weeks for the Tractor Boys.
