Ipswich Town defender Jonas Knudsen is being linked with a move away from Portman Road with Danish giants FC Copenhagen and FC Midtjylland emerging as the frontrunners to sign him.

According to Danish newspaper BT Sport’s football podcast, the Danish clubs have been alerted to the fact that Knudsen is out of contract with the struggling Championship side at the end of this season.

This isn't the first time that the 26-year-old has been linked with a move away from the club, with Middlesbrough and Stoke previously registering their interest in securing a deal for Knudsen.

This latest transfer development is a devastating blow to Ipswich supporters, who will have hoped that Knudsen could play a crucial role in dragging them out of the relegation zone.

He has been ever-present in the Ipswich side and has featured in all 19 league games this season and losing him would be a huge blow.

The full-back joined Ipswich in 2015 for a fee of £300,000 and he has become a fans' favourite amongst Ipswich supporters.

But the potential deal could be a real possibility, given that it would mean a return to his birthplace if he was to join either of the Danish clubs.

So it's sure to be a nervous wait for Ipswich supporters in January, as they battle to keep hold of their key players who they will hope can steer them clear of their relegation fears this season.

The Verdict:

This just adds a further blow to an already awful start to the season for Ipswich.

Knudsen has been one of the rare bright sparks this season for Paul Lambert's side and with his contract expiring in the summer, they are faced with the prospect of losing the defender for a minimal fee.

Ipswich are already in deep trouble this season and if they are to lose Knuden before the summer, then their relegation may as well be all but confirmed.
