Aston Villa are sweating over the fitness of trio Neil Taylor, John McGinn and James Chester ahead of next weekend’s Second City Derby match, according to reports from the Birmingham Mail.

Villa go into the crunch match against Birmingham on the back of an impressive 3-0 away win at promotion rivals Derby County - Dean Smith’s third win in his first five league games as Villa boss.

But Villa could be at a disadvantage ahead of the clash with their arch rivals, with the important trio doubtful for the encounter at Villa Park.

Chester hobbled off in Wales’ clash with Denmark in midweek, whilst left-back Taylor didn’t even feature due to failing to recover to an injury sustained in Villa’s 3-0 win over Derby.

Talisman McGinn was withdrawn from the Scotland side to face Albania last weekend, but the 24-year old also looks doubtful for the crucial clash next weekend, after netting one and setting up one against the Rams.

Villa sit one place ahead of their rivals, just four points off the playoff places, and will be desperate for what will be a huge three points against their rivals.

The Verdict

This could be detrimental for Villa - McGinn has been absolutely incredible for Villa this season and he’ll be a huge loss in midfield.

Chester and Taylor have also been reliable figures at the back this season, so Villa will be praying that they are fit.
