Derby County star Wayne Rooney could be forced to miss the Rams' next three matches, after coming into contact with someone who has since tested positive for Covid-19 according to the Daily Mail.

Rooney was visited by Josh Bardsley (younger brother of Burnley's Phil Bardsley) over the weekend, as he gave the Derby midfielder a watch, although they didn't meet indoors.

But Rooney could have to self-isolate now for 14 days as a precaution, as he waits to find out the result of his test ahead of their match against Huddersfield Town.

Derby haven't started this year's campaign strongly under the management of Phillip Cocu, with the Rams only winning once in their opening five matches of the 2020/21 season.

They were beaten by Watford in their most recent fixture, and will be eager to put together a positive run of results at the earliest of opportunities.

A source close to Derby County has told the Daily Mail that Rooney is infuriated by Bardsley's actions, as well as the club being frustrated with his recent actions.

"Wayne is furious and so is the club.

"Bardsely’s been very stupid and it’s had a huge, negative impact on Wayne because it means that he now has to isolate, and potentially could even have coronavirus.

"He’s fuming and disappointed that he and his family been put into this position because of the reckless actions of one individual."

Derby now await the results of Rooney's test, which is far from ideal timing, as they prepare to take on fellow strugglers Huddersfield Town on Tuesday.

The Verdict:

This could be a worrying update for Derby County.

If Rooney is to test positive, then there will be fears that he could have passed on the virus to other members of Phillip Cocu's squad.

It's far from ideal timing as well, with the Rams having a number of matches coming up, which could give a clearer picture on which direction their season will head in.

They'll be hoping Rooney can be available for selection at the earliest of opportunities.
