‘World class!’ – Many Birmingham City fans react to player’s display vs Luton Town

Birmingham fans have taken to Twitter to praise the performance of goalkeeper Neil Etheridge in their draw with Luton Town on Tuesday night.

Aitor Karanka’s men, looking for their first Championship win since Halloween, made the perfect start through Lukas Jutkiewicz’s penalty midway through the opening period.

However, the Blues were pegged back just before half-time when Matty Pearson poked home from close-range from a corner – a moment where Etheridge will feel he might have done better.

Quiz: Did these 17 Birmingham City players ever actually score a league goal for the club?

Stephen Gleeson?

But from then on in, the former Cardiff City shotstopper made a flurry of outstanding saves to preserve a point for the St Andrew’s outfit – with one second-half stop from Hatters striker James Collins in particular, an early contender for save of the season.

With the ball having been whipped across the face of goal, Collins, usually so clinical from those type of areas, looked set to fire home the winner, but Etheridge somehow flung himself across to deny the frontman from six-yards out.

Despite his part in Luton’s equaliser, Blues fans made their thoughts clear about his contribution at Kenilworth Road on social media.
