Nottingham Forest's season looks to be on the up following opening day defeat to West Brom, with four points from six in their last two league fixtures whilst also defeating Fleetwood Town in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

So far Matty Cash has been manager Sabri Lamouchi's go to right-back in the league, while Carl Jenkinson got the nod in the League Cup tie.

Jenkinson was a summer arrival from Arsenal on a three-year deal, but as of yet he is yet to displace Cash as Lamouchi's first choice right-back.

So will Jenkinson oust Cash at right-back anytime soon?

We discuss........

Chris Gallagher

"Yes, even though it has to be said that Cash is impressing.

"However, Jenkinson won't have joined to sit on the bench and he is a better all-round defender than the winger.

"Whilst Cash's attacking instincts are served well in certain games, such as Birmingham at home where he can get forward and isn't required to do as much defensively, that won't always be the case.

"His positional play is still suspect and that's understandable as he is learning a new role but Jenkinson is a more solid option for the boss.

"Lamouchi can't really drop anyone for the game against Charlton tomorrow given how good the Reds were on Saturday but over the course of the season I expect the ex-Arsenal man will force his way in."

Louie Chandler

"Not particularly.

"I do think it is inevitable that Jenkinson will end up as the first-choice right-back but the performances of his team-mate are making that difficult for him.

"Cash has been brilliant at right-back so far this season and has added a dynamism to the Forest side that was perhaps missing in that area for much of last season.

"It is a great dilemma for Lamouchi to have, however, and he will be relishing the competition between the pair."

George Harbey

“I think that it would be very harsh to drop Matty Cash given his recent form in the first few games of the Championship season.

“Of course, Jenkinson was brought into the club because they needed a right-back, but that’s not to say that Cash can’t keep his place there this season.

“He’s still learning and trying to adjust to a position that he isn’t familiar with, but you can tell game by game that he is getting better and better.

“He provides real energy down the flanks, and his partnership with Joe Lolley at the weekend was great to see.”
