With the transfer window now well underway, rumours are already emerging around a number of players, as clubs look to strengthen ahead of next season.

One such player is Middlesbrough's Britt Assombalonga, with the striker's future at The Riverside far from certain.

It certainly appears to be an intriguing situation around Assombalonga, and we take an in depth look at it in our latest six point opinion piece here.

Firstly, what is the situation around Assombalonga?

"The Middlesbrough striker is attracting plenty of interest in the summer transfer window.

"According to The Northern Echo, recently promoted Sheffield United are interested in a move for the striker as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of their return to the top flight.

"Championship trio Blackburn, Birmingham and Bristol City are also amongst those thought to be interested in Assombalonga."

So would 'Boro be willing to sell?

"They won't be letting him go without a fight.

"Assombalonga has two years left on his contract at The Riverside Stadium, so they are in no need to sell, and with Assombalonga topping their scoring charts last season with 14 goals in 42 Championship appearances, they will be keen to keep of the 26-year-old."

How much could it take to prise him away from The Riverside?

"It is thought that Middlesbrough will ask for £15million for the striker.

"That would be a significant amount for Sheffield United to pay, let alone of those sides still in the Championship for next season, and that could be crucial to 'Boro's hopes of keeping Assombalonga at The Riverside."

Do Sheffield United have to get him?

"While they clearly want a striker for their return to the top flight, they are not in an all or nothing position with regards to Assombalonga.

"Wales Online have reported that Swansea striker Oli McBurnie is a target for the Blades, as is West Brom's Jay Rodriguez, who The Mirror say could be available for just £5million.

"Given that price, his goalscoring record and experience in the top flight, Rodriguez may be a more tempting option for interested clubs."

Would Assombalonga want to go if Sheffield United make a move?

"You would have thought so.

"The striker has never played in the Premier League before, so he would surely be determined to take his chance in the top tier should it come along, since it is hard to know when such an opportunity may come along again."

Finally, how would he do in the Premier League?

"There is always an element of the unknown when a player makes his debut in the Premier League, although Assombalonga may be able to cope reasonably well at Sheffield United.

"It could depend on how manager Chris Wilder approaches the top tier, but Assombalonga's ability to finish means he should fare well if the Blades continue to be a side who look to get at their opponents and create chances for their forwards, while his physicality means he could also carry out a lone striker role holding up play if they elect to employ a more defensive approach on their Premier League return."
