‘Wonderful’, ‘Good team’ – Many Portsmouth fans react as Danny Cowley names line-up for Wigan clash

Portsmouth have had some start to life under Danny Cowley and they are hoping it continues against lowly Wigan Athletic this afternoon at the DW Stadium.
Cowley and his brother Nicky arrived at Fratton Park in late March to take over the job that Kenny Jackett had done following his departure after nearly four years at the helm.
Three league losses in a row led to Jackett’s dismissal, and the Pompey hierarchy moved to bring in a man with promotions on his CV and who had last been managing in the Championship in 2020 with Huddersfield Town.
Cowley is looking to prove Terriers chairman Phil Hodgkinson wrong and he’s gotten off to the perfect start on the south coast, winning all three matches in charge 2-1.
Friday’s victory over Rochdale came without the services of top scorer John Marquis, who is serving a three game ban and they will continue to be without him today as they face a Wigan side who could be rejuvinated following official confirmation of their takeover by a Bahraini consortium.
If you don’t get at least 15/20 on this Portsmouth midfielder quiz, can you really call yourself a Pompey fan?
Cowley clearly believes in the ‘don’t change a winning team’ cliche as there are no changes from the starting line-up that defeated Rochdale on Friday, with the seven substitutes also being the exact same.
It’s a decision that’s left Pompey fans happy – let’s check out some of their reactions.
