Differing reports have emerged about former England midfielder Jack Wilshere training with Derby County and the links have caused a stir among the Pride Park fanbase.
With the start of the season just two weeks away, Wayne Rooney’s squad is extremely threadbare and the manager himself has questioned whether he’ll be able to field a team unless signings are made.
A number of free agents have been training with the Rams this summer and, according to The Times, Wilshere is among them.
The 29-year-old left Bournemouth earlier this summer and knows Rooney from their playing days together with England.
However, Steve Nicholson from the Derby Telegraph has since claimed that the midfielder has not trained with the East Midlands club last week or this week.
Rooney’s midfield options were diminished further earlier this week as it emerged that Jason Knight is set for up to 12 weeks on the sidelines after picking up an ankle injury in training.
What was the score the last time Derby County played at each of these 24 stadiums?
With Krystian Bielik still recovering from his long-term knee issue, that leaves just Louie Sibley, Graeme Shinnie, and Max Bird as the Rams’ senior options in midfield.
Adding Wilshere would certainly reinforce the area and the links to the former Arsenal and England player have caught the attention of the Pride Park faithful – many of whom have taken to Twitter to voice their thoughts…
What can he bring to the club though? He's literally done nothing since he left Arsenal. https://t.co/gB5db77Jqd

We've gone from the gaffer having a cheating scandal and injuring our own player for 12 weeks to Jack Wilshere training with us. This club is genuinely so unpredictable

Would happily take Jack Wilshere. But considering he’s injured a lot and will no doubt want a decently sized wage. Is it worth it?

If true, would be a brilliant signing, wonderful footballer when injury free !
