Middlesbrough have offered in-demand winger Adama Traore a new contract, according to Gazette Live.

The 22-year-old is a wanted man with Wolverhampton Wanderers in hot pursuit of the Boro talisman.

Traore has an £18million release clause in his current deal, which still has two years left to run and in a new twist the transfer saga, the winger has been offered the chance to sign a new contract at the Riverside.

Wolves had a £12million bid rejected by the Teeside outfit, and are wary of bidding higher as they do not agree that the fee wanted for release reflects the value of the player.

Huddersfield has also been keen on the acquiring the Spaniard’s services.

Boro boss Tony Pulis is ‘hoping and praying’ Traore stays and has moved quickly to offer him a new, improve deal that remains on the table, to ward off the advances of the Premier League duo.

Traore managed five goals in 36 games for Boro, registering ten assets but it was his bustling strength and unfathomable pace that took the eye of many, resulting in the interest from teams in the top flight.

The Verdict

The new contract offer for Traore is Pulis’ last stand in an attempt to keep the player.

If he does not accept the new deal, the £18million release clause stands, and if Wolves or any other club want him that much, then they will pay it.

It is the final attempt to convince the former Barcelona man to stay at the Riverside as desperation reigns in order to keep the talismanic attacker.

If the 22-year-old stays then it would be a massive coup for the club and would leave them buoyant ahead of the new season.

That is all a pipe-dream, however, as you would expect Traore to leave for the Premier League and sign for a Wolves side who look set to attack the top flight next season.
