Wolverhampton Wanderers target John Akinde will extend his stay at Barnet, the club’s manager has confirmed.
The striker, who was reported to be a target for Kenny Jackett’s Wolves, will now stay at the London based side after the club decided to take up an option on his contract to keep him at the club.
The Bees’ boss Martin Allen confirmed the news in an open letter to the fans, posted on the club’s official website.
Akinde was linked at the weekend to a transfer to Wolves as Benik Afobe’s replacement, but this move by Barnet will end the speculation.
The English born South African national has been instrumental for the League Two side this year, with 11 goals in all competitions. His ten netted in the league puts him amongst the top scorers.
His performances have earned him praise from both Barnet and rival fans, and a step up to the second division would have been just reward.
Wolves fans, what do you think? Are you disappointed that Akinde won’t make the switch to Molineux this month? Barnet fans, how pivotal has he been to your side this term? Let us know in the comments below!
