Danny Loader's proposed move from Reading to Wolves was called off late on by the Championship side.

The talented 18-year-old had been identified as a potential target for Wanderers and a move seemed inevitable after it was revealed that the clubs had reached an agreement and the forward was having a medical.

Yet, the transfer was not completed before the 5pm deadline and Sky reporter Anton Toloui explained that was down to the Royals.

"#WWFC’s move for Reading forward Danny Loader is OFF. Player had a medical and agreed terms with Wolves but I’m told Reading have pulled the plug at the last minute."

Quite why the Berkshire side decided to do that remains to be seen, with Jose Gomes' side bringing in several attacking options in the past few days, including George Puscas and Lucas Joao.

However, Loader did start the Royals opening day game against Sheffield Wednesday, with the teenager playing for just over an hour in what was a 3-1 defeat for Reading.

The youngster is entering the final year of his contract at the Madejski Stadium.

The Verdict

Even though transfers are complex, it's very unusual for a move to break down at such a late stage after everything had been sorted.

It's sure to have really annoyed Wolves and it's going to be frustrating for Loader too, who will have been excited to join the Premier League side.

But, ultimately Reading are well within their rights to do this and they have failed to bring in someone they had anticipated would replace the academy graduate.

It will be interesting to see how Loader deals with this now though as he may be unhappy with how Reading handled this.
