Championship duo Wolves and Reading could go head to head this week to sign Preston striker Jordan Hugill, according to Alan Nixon on Twitter.

The 25-year-old is a man in demand following an impressive season last time out for North End, where he bagged 12 goals for the Lancashire club.

A bid from Reading has already been rejected according to reports, but the Royals and also Wolves could well be willing to come back with even more money than the £8m already rejected by Preston.

Hugill has shot to prominence with North End following his impressive form last season which saw him become a regular goalscorer and a firm fan favourite thanks to his all action displays and excellent finishing ability.

However, with both the Royals and big spending Wolves sniffing, it could well just be a matter of time before the club cave in to a big off and reluctantly sell their star man.

A deal could be done by this week, but Preston are thought to be holding out for their asking price and will not sell unless it is met. It remains to be seen whether Wolves or indeed Reading will come back with a concrete bid for Hugill before the deadline at the end of this week.
