Wolves captain Danny Batth has stated the club's vital 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest this weekend was 'just the start' of the club's push away from relegation and urged people not to get carried away in his post-match comments published by The Express & Star.

The club's impressive victory over promotion-chasing Forest was only the second win in 13 matches for Paul Lambert's side, who moved five points above the relegation zone with the win ahead of their final two clashes of 2016 against Bristol City and fellow strugglers QPR.

Despite the importance of the weekend victory, skipper Batth has played down the significance of the result and suggested the three points will count for nothing if his side do not build upon their recent win.

"It's just a win, it's a start. It's how we carry on from here that counts. Winning games and keeping clean sheets is what we want to be achieving. We need to do it more often. We're not getting carried away."

"I thought our front four were brilliant and we justly scored two goals. We kept the ball a bit better, which means we're not defending as much. And the game management at the end when we were 2-0 up was good."

The victory means Wolves have claimed seven points from a possible 12 in December, losing just once, and the result against Forest saw captain Batth make his 250th club appearance and he's not done yet, as he aims to lead Wolves back into the Premier League.

"It feels like 500! No I'm joking, it's a nice achievement for myself and my family. Hopefully I've got many more to come and for Wolves. The main thing you learn is when things are bad don't beat yourself up about it and when things are good don't go shouting from the rooftops.

"I want to crack on and make sure the next 250 are more successful. Taking Wolves to the Premier League is my goal."
