After their fantastic start to the season, Wolves goalkeeper John Ruddy has called on his side to continue doing the dirty work in order to succeed.

Wanderers are second to Leeds on goal difference and have begun the season very well under Nuno Espirito Santo.

With a host of signings having never played in England before, but possessing undoubted quality, many didn't know what to expect from Wolves.

At times, they've shone, playing excellent football in a 2-0 win at Derby in particular, but in most cases they've battled to victories by the odd goal.

Speaking to the Express & Star, Ruddy said they must show fighting qualities and then there quality can come to the fore.

More often than not in this league you have to match the application of other teams. Without sounding dismissive of anyone else, I think the quality we've got in our team will shine through as long as we do the dirty work first.

Next up, Wolves face two away trips which doubters will have predicted they could struggle in.

They visit Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United in what should be an exciting game, before going to Burton Albion on Saturday.

The Verdict

John Ruddy's assessment is fair, Wolves must match sides effort and determination and then hope their quality shines through.

However, so far that's exactly what they've done. Ruben Neves and Diogo Jota have particularly pleased fans with their totally-committed approach.

With two tough away trips looming, if Wolves can pass the physical tests in both, it will demonstrate the sort of quality needed to be successful this season.
