Barry Douglas is refusing to let standards slip as the season comes to an end.

The Scottish left wing-back is having an excellent season with four goals and 12 assists in the league. Him and Matt Doherty on the other flank have been excellent in balancing their attacking and defensive responsibilities.

This balance has given Wolves extra attacking threat without compromising their defensive structure which is important because Nuno Santo sets his team up to play narrowly defensively with Douglas and Doherty important in ensuring teams can't create openings down either flank.

Douglas has been rewarded for his performances with a call-up to the Scottish national team by Alex McLeish.

This was the focus of his interview with the Guardian, but he also had this to say about Wolves: "It’s not just about winning, it’s about how we win; we have played some really nice football and that’s enjoyable to be a part of."

"I can’t really think about that or get ahead of myself. That’s when complacency kicks in."

The Verdict

This was a mature answer from Douglas because he is showing the right mentality for a team that has been so successful so far. Complacency is their biggest threat right now because they have a significant lead on Fulham in third place.

Nuno Santo has completely overhauled the playing style since joining the club in the summer and he has done this with a mixture of talented prospects, transfer market bargains and players already at the club.

His ideas have clearly rubbed off on the squad based on what Douglas had to say about their performances, so the Portuguese manager has certainly had a significant impact on the squad intellectually.
