Wolves captain Danny Batth has revealed how the team appreciate the fans support, and has called on the players to keep them happy by producing consistent performances.

Molineux was rocking on Saturday against Aston Villa in what was the highest attendance the club have had since 1981.

Goals from Diogo Jota and Leo Bonatini in a 2-0 win sent the Wanderers top and the supporters home in a very happy mood.

Speaking to the Express & Star, local boy Batth was delighted with the turnout for the derby game.

The last game I remember the atmosphere being up to this level was the Chelsea game. That kind of support, it is not cheap to come and watch football so for the fans to spare their money to come and watch us, when it is on TV as well, is massive for us.”

Nuno Espirito Santo's men are up against Preston at home next time out. The centre-back wants to keep this great recent form going to reward the fans who haven't had much to cheer over recent seasons.

You can't underestimate how much it means to the area and the fans who have been through some tough times. Hopefully we can keep winning.”

The Verdict

It was a magnificent occasion for all concerned with Wolves on Saturday night and it felt like a statement win given the way they played.

After several seasons of poor football and mediocre results, the fans have backed the new regime in big numbers and performances like Saturday will only encourage more.

There's still a lot of work to do if they're to achieve their objectives, but things are looking good for Wolves at the minute, as Batth acknowledges.
