Wolves should definitely take a punt on this Sheffield Wednesday man as backup to Nouha Dicko

Wolverhampton have already had a very busy transfer window under their new boss Nuno Espirito Santo, as the former Porto manager has already brought in eight new signings, with one being new club record signing Ruben Neves.

Nuno has already strengthened Wolves in various areas, and on paper Wolves look to be set for a promotion battle this campaign, opposed to their battle of survival last term.

However, one area Nuno has been reluctant to improve so far is Wolves’ attack.

This may just be due to Portuguese manager having faith in the club’s current number nine Nouha Dicko, although with the sales of Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, and Paul Gladon, alongside Nuno choosing against signing Andi Weimann on a permanent deal, Wolves most certainly will need to sign a second choice forward to push Dicko harder.

Sheffield Wednesday’s Lucas Joao, who is valued at £2.13m on transfermarkt, would be a perfect addition to Nuno’s already strong side.

Playing in England for over two seasons now, Joao has become very familiar with the Championship, and on various occasions has proven how much of a goal threat he can be when given game time.

Unfortunately for the Portuguese forward, recently he has fell down the pecking order at Hillsborough, due to the signings of Jordan Rhodes, and Sam Winnall, which forced him to go out on-loan to Blackburn Rovers for the second half of last season, in order to gain first team football.

The Molineux would be the perfect place for Joao to battle for a first team spot up front, due to the lack of depth up top, but also by being surrounded by such outstanding attacking midfielders such as Helder Costa, and Ivan Cavaleiro, his development as a striker will only progress quicker.

Additionally, with the 23-year-old still having two years left on his contract at Hillsborough, Joao’s price tag will more than likely be quite high, but with Joao unlikely to receive any game time at the Sheffield club, they may be willing to send him out on-loan again with the option to buy him after his loan spell, making the transfer less of a risk, if Joao fails to impress at the Molineux.

Regardless of the circumstances, Joao would provide brilliant cover for Nouha Dicko for next season if Nuno was to trigger a deal for the Portuguese forward, and with Dicko’s injury proneness, Joao would more than likely become a constant first team starter for Nuno.
