Wolverhampton Wanderers are due to open talks with Benik Afobe over a permanent move to the club when they return from their post-season trip to Las Vegas, according to a report by The Sun.

Wolves were given an end-of-season holiday to Las Vegas as a reward for winning the Championship title and they are due back tomorrow, when discussions over a permanent deal for Afobe will start.

Afobe spent the second half of the season on loan at Wolves, scoring six goals in seven starts and nine substitute appearances for Nuno Espirito Santo's side and helping them win promotion back to the Premier League.

It was his seocnd stint at Molineux after he netted 23 goals in 48 appearances for Wolves between 2014 and 2016, prior to his move to Bournemouth.

But now the Cherries are willing to sell Afobe after he dropped below the likes of Josh King, Callum Wilson and Jermain Defoe in the pecking order.

The 25-year-old has only scored 11 goals in 70 games for Bournemouth and now looks set for a permanent exit from the club.

Wolves are interested in signing the DR Congo international but agreements with Bournemouth and the player are both yet to be reached.

The Verdict

Wolves should try to wrap this one up quickly.

Although he does not have the best Premier League record, he has mainly been used as a substitute at Bournemouth and he needs to thrive in a new environment like Molineux, where he is familiar with the fans and style of play.

Even if Afobe ends up being a second or third choice, he is a decent squad option.
