Joao Cancelo is a summer target for Wolves, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 24-year-old was on loan at Inter Milan from Valencia where he played in 26 league games. He is an attacking full-back more comfortable at taking on players than defending in the defensive third, which can be seen with his one goal and four assists.

Inter do have a 35 million euros option to buy him, but funds are limited even with qualification for Champions League football, so they are being careful in who they bring in due to a number of players being on loan at the club. This has given Wolves and Man City a chance to sneak in and hijack the deal with Valencia having little use for him in their counter-attacking set-up under Marcelino.

The Verdict

Cancelo would be ideal for Wolves' 3-4-3 system because he would be more than comfortable providing the attacking width for his team due to being used as a winger by some of his former clubs. He has a promising future ahead of him, but the fee for him is high especially for Wolves who need to be careful with their spending due to it being their first season back in the Premier League.

His absence from the Portuguese World Cup squad hints at some of the defensive issues in his game which need to be worked on. Although his absence from the tournament does suit potential buyers such as Wolves because his price isn't likely to go up.
