According to Football Insider, AFC Bournemouth have rejected a £15m bid from Wolverhampton Wanderers for star striker, Benik Afobe.

Afobe left Molineux for Bournemouth in January 2016 in a deal worth around £10m, but Wolves are desperate to bring the striker back to the club on deadline day.

Nouha Dicko’s move to Hull City earlier this week has left Wolves short of attacking options heading out of the summer transfer window, with Leo Bonatini the club’s only recognised striker.

Nuno Espirito Santo is desperate to add to his attacking options today, with a striker his priority on deadline day.

Wolves have made an approach for Afobe, who made 48 appearances and scored 23 goals for the club between 2015 and 2016, but Bournemouth have reportedly rejected their £15m offer.

Despite the 24-year-old struggling to hold down a place in the starting XI with Bournemouth due to competition for places, the Cherries are reluctant to lose the striker at such a late stage of the transfer window.

Since his move to Bournemouth, Afobe has struggled for opportunities, making just 49 Premier League appearances over the last 18-months, with only 28 of those coming from the start.

So far this season, Afobe has made four appearances for Bournemouth but failed to score a goal.

The Verdict

Wolves’ search for a striker is becoming desperate as the closing of the summer transfer window edges closer.

Nuno knows exactly the type of striker Wolves need, and Afobe would be perfect to spearhead the club’s push for promotion, with the 24-year-old guaranteed to score goals.

If Wolves can land Afobe they would almost look unstoppable, but whatever happens in their quest for a striker, one must be signed if Nuno is to achieve his ultimate aim and gain promotion.
