Wolverhampton Wanderers are really flying the flag for football in the West Midlands this season, absolutely storming the Championship - 11 points clear at the top of the table.

Wolves have really been one of the standout sides in the Championship this season, and if you look at the sides surrounding them geographically, they really are showing the other West Midlands clubs how to do it.

With Premier League outfits West Brom and Stoke City struggling in the relegation zone of the Premier League, Birmingham City hovering above the Championship relegation zone, and Coventry City under-performing in League Two, only Aston Villa can provide competition to Wolves for the most dominant club in the West Midlands this season.

It's not long ago that you would've associated all of the West Midlands clubs as being Premier League outfits, or at least yo-yo-ing between the Premier League and Championship, but now only two have survived - and it's not looking good. However, since the arrival of Nuno Espirito Santo as manager of the club in the summer, Wolves have really turned things around.

It's a credit to Wolves as a club that they can attract a former Valencia and Porto manager to the West Midlands and the Championship, and it looks like he'll be taking them up to Premier League via the Championship title, and Santo really isn't taking his foot off the pedal.

Despite still being 11 points clear at the top of the Championship table, Santo was still disappointed at dropping points against Preston North End at the weekend.

Santo told the Express & Star: "I'm not happy with the result, we prepare every game to win.

"We have to take a look at what happened today and get better for next time. "I'm very proud of the attitude of the team and the work of the boys. We were relentless - this is the word, relentless. "This is how we have to be every game." With 14 games still to play for, nothing is set in stone, but with only one loss in the league since October, Wolves must really fancy themselves to return to the Premier League.
