Wolves are considering making another bid for Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Rui Patricio despite the bad blood between Jorge Mendes and the Portuguese club.

Mendes, who is a close advisor to the Wolves owners, has been working on a deal to bring Patricio to the West Midlands.

However, it has been anything but straightforward with Patricio trying to terminate his contract and Sporting accusing Mendes of blackmail.

That prompted the Portuguese side to move the goalposts at the last minute despite Wolves agreeing a £15.8m deal to sign the 30-year old stopper.

Yet, according to the Express & Star, the newly-promoted Premier League side could return with a new bid for the keeper as they look to finalise the deal.

The player is gearing up for the World Cup so it would surely benefit all parties for the deal to be concluded before Portugal's first game against Spain which is in ten days time.

Should Patricio leave for Wolves, it will end a 18-year association with Sporting, where he has played over 300 games.

The Verdict

Even though John Ruddy had a good season for Wolves, Patricio would be a real upgrade for the club and a statement signing.

He is a Portugal international and has proven himself to be a very good stopper at a high level over the years.

Therefore, it would be great for Wolves to do a deal and they will hope that even after all the arguments of the past week an agreement can be reached.
