Wolves' transfer chief Kevin Thelwell has conceded he expects a wealth of departures from the club in January after a manic summer, he told The Express & Star.

The club's £30m takeover in the summer led to a hectic six weeks in which 12 players were signed, leaving Wolves with a huge squad to contend with.

Wolves' excessive summer spending has not led to increased fortune in the Championship, as the club currently sit 17th, just three points above the relegation zone, and nine points away from the play-offs.

However, the club will hope the recent appointment of Paul Lambert will lead to more consistency at Molineux and whilst Thelwell indicated the Scottish boss will have money to spend in the New Year, it would not lead to another spending spree.

"I don’t think we’ll require a big turnover. From my perspective we were very clear about identifying somebody who would not just come in and do exactly what they wanted, but felt they could come and work in a process and had a similar philosophy and style."

"Over hours and hours of conversations I feel we’ve got some synergy there. On that basis, I would hope there are lots of players that fit Paul’s style. Inevitably what happens is there are some situations where that might not be the case. That’s to be reviewed over time."

"There are some possibilities. Fosun have not changed their philosophy. They want to be promoted, the quicker the better. If we can do it this season that would be fantastic. If it’s medium to long term and they have to dedicate finances to that, that’s what they’ll do."

It would take a major sequence of events for Wolves to turn the current campaign into a promotion charge but the competitive nature of the Championship means that a nine point deficit is not the end of the world.

However, Wolves will be well aware that they've not won a game since the end of September and improvements will need to be swift if the club are to build something from this season.
