Danny Newton has admitted that he is flattered by the interest in him, according to The Tamworth Herald.

Tamworth FC striker Danny Newton has enjoyed a prolific season in the National League North and his performances have caught the eye of a number of Football League admirers.

Coventry City, who were recently relegated to League 2, have been credited with holding a major interest in the 26-year-old, who scored 29 goals this season and won numerous end of season awards at the club.

Tamworth have offered Newton a new deal but he is keen to see if a Football League club will take a punt on him first.

As well as Coventry, Championship outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers have scouted Newton.

League One newcomers Wigan Athletic (relegated from the Championship) and Portsmouth (promoted from League Two as champions) are also interested as well as League Two outfit Grimsby Town.

Talking about the interest in him, Danny Newton said:

"Obviously it is nice to hear people are watching me.

"The fact there is rumoured interest means I must be doing something right.

"But I haven't heard anything personally.

"I am just focusing on taking part in the V9 Academy, keeping myself as fit as possible. I think the important thing from my point of view is to keep my feet on the ground.

"I am not getting carried away.

"I just need to keep working hard and just do what I do."
