Wolves are preparing a £9m bid for the latest player to take the name Pele, according to Portuguese paper A Bola via the Birmingham Mail.

The 26-year old midfielder, currently plying his trade with Rio Ave in Portugal, has been in fine form for his club side, scoring five times so far this season.

Pele, or Judilson Mamadu Tuncará Gomes to give him his full name, represented Portugal through to U21 level before switching allegiances to Guinea Bissau.

He's been capped just once for his new country, against Namibia in African Cup of Nations qualifying.

He has had spells in Italy with Milan and with Benfica in Portugal, failing to break through with either side and spending time out on loan with a variety of clubs including Feirense and Arsenal Kyiv.

This season he's graduated to top-flight football and has made 28 appearances in the heart of Rio Ave's midfielder as they hunt a Europa League spot.

Wolves will begin adding to their triumphant Championship squad in readiness for the new season and the six-foot midfielder is linked with being one of the first swoops of a busy summer.

The Verdict

Pele's reputation has been growing significantly and whilst he's not quite at the level of his Brazilian namesake, nor perhaps the Ghanaian Abedi Pele, he does have massive potential.

He's been talked of highly at Rio Ave after finally breaking through, although he might not be seen as the sort of signing ambitious Wolves should be chasing.
