Wolves forward Joe Mason could be set to leave the club with MLS side Colorado Rapids interested in signing him on loan.

The former Cardiff City man isn’t needed at Molineux with Nuno Espirito Santo boasting several preferred attacking options.

Mason has managed just 35 appearances and six goals in the league since arriving from the Welsh side in 2016.

The 26-year old had spent the first part of the season on loan at Burton Albion but was ruled out after suffering from an inflamed appendix. That meant he managed just four appearances and one goal with the Brewers.

Thankfully, he is now fit and healthy but Mason didn’t leave the Championship leaders in January meaning he can’t move to another domestic side until the summer.

However, Steven Goff who writes for the Washington Post has suggested a move to the Rapids is in the pipeline.

If it goes through Mason would join up with former Wolves teammate Jack Price who joined the MLS side last month.

The league season for Colorado doesn’t start until March 10 when they begin with a trip to New England.

The Verdict

This would be a fantastic opportunity for Mason and he must be desperately hoping it all goes through.

Clearly, he isn’t needed at Wolves so the chance to go to Colorado will give him a chance to play football, otherwise he will have to wait until next season.

Equally so, Wolves will want to get rid of the player and if the Rapids pay some of his wages it will benefit the Championship side too. Therefore, it’s a great move for all concerned.
