Wolverhampton Wanderers remain on course to complete a deal for Diogo Jota, with the Sky Bet Championship champions expected to pay £13m for his service.

Jota spent the 2017/18 campaign on-loan at Molineux from Athletico Madrid, with the forward having a huge impact as Wolves sealed promotion back to the Premier League under Nuno Espirito Santo.

The 21-year-old featured in 44 of Wolves’ 46 Championship fixtures, scoring 17 goals and assisting a further five, as Nuno’s side stormed to promotion.

According to the Express and Star’s Tim Spiers, Wolves remain on course to sign Jota in a £13m deal this summer, ahead of their return to the Premier League.

It was announced late in the January transfer window that Wolves had agreed to sign Jota on a permanent deal, but despite the transfer window opening earlier this month, no announcement has been made that the signing is complete.

Along with Jota, the Express and Star have confirmed that Willy Boly will join Wolves permanently, whilst the club are also considering permanent deals for Benik Afobe, Alfred N'Diaye and Ruben Vinagre.

Leo Bonatini, another player at Molineux on-loan during the 2017/18 campaign, will not be returning.

The Verdict

Securing Jota’s future is huge for Wolves, particularly given his impact in the Championship over the last 12 months.

The 21-year-old forward has scored goals and proved himself to be a real talent.

At £13m, and with his best still ahead of him, Wolves will feel Jota is a bargain that they couldn’t afford to miss out on.
