Wolves moved to the top of the league after a resounding 2-0 win over local rivals Aston Villa.

The Black Country side were too good on the day for Steve Bruce's men in a game played in front of over 30,000 fans.

It was the highest crowd at Molineux since 1981 and demonstrated the positivity that is surrounding the club.

Left wing-back Barry Douglas came back into the side at the expense of Ruben Vinagre and was solid against the threats of Robert Snodgrass and Albert Adomah.

He was also a major threat down the left-hand side offensively, linking up well with Diogo Jota and providing constant width as Wolves switched the play frequently.

The former Konyaspor man took to Twitter after to reflect on the big win and also praised the crowd.

With Cardiff losing to Birmingham City on Friday night, Wolves knew that they could go top with a win. Goals from Jota and Leo Bonatini made the difference but it could've been many more.

Next up for Nuno Espirito Santo's men is a home game against Preston, which will be another tough examination for the team given the way Alex Neil's side have played this season.

The Verdict

Saturday evening will live long in the memory for every Wolves fan after what was a fantastic occasion for the club.

They beat their local rivals in front of a record crowd and moved to the top of the table.

It's nice of Barry Douglas to appreciate the support of the fans and if the players continue to deliver performances like that then you can expect tickets to be hard to come by at Molineux this season.
