Wolves striker Benik Afobe has revealed that a team meeting following the heavy defeat to Aston Villa seriously helped the mood around the club.

Since that 4-1 loss, Wolves have won their next two games, with rivals Villa losing both.

That means they head into the international break with a 13-point lead over third and know four wins will secure promotion to the Premier League.

And, Afobe praised boss Nuno Espirito Santo for the way he spoke to the players after the game at Villa Park.

"We had a meeting last Sunday as a team, the manager spoke to us and we knew what we had to do, it’s as simple as that.It was a very honest meeting, one of the best things about this manager is he doesn’t hide things from us," he told the Express & Star.

The on-loan Bournemouth man also added that Santo provided ideas on how they can improve.

"He told us what we needed to do as a team. It’s been about the shape and everything we do here is about the team."

Afobe has been key to the recent wins, scoring in the 3-0 success against Reading, then hitting two against Burton on Saturday.

The Verdict

This was a great move by Santo to get the players together and reassure them, particularly because the nerves had spread to the stands.

However, he remained calm as Afobe revealed and it has certainly paid off. Wolves couldn't have imagined they'd have a 13-point lead just a week after losing to Villa, which means they've got one foot in the Premier League.

There's still work to do but you can be sure Santo will continue to push the side until they are over the line.
