Wolves will not be signing Alfred N'Diaye on a permanent basis after his season-long loan from Villarreal ended.

The midfielder failed to establish himself as a regular in the team, with Ruben Neves and Romain Saiss the preferred pairing for Nuno Espirito Santo, however N'Diaye did make several key contributions throughout the season.

In total, the former Sunderland midfielder made 33 appearances, mostly as sub, and chipped in with three goals as the Black Country side eased to the Championship title.

Yet, Sport Witness have revealed how Spanish media outlet AS are reporting that Wolves will not take up the option to sign N'Diaye permanently.

That will leave Santo's side short on bodies in midfield, with few senior options behind N'Diaye in the middle of the park.

Given that, Wolves will surely be in the market to strengthen that area of the team in the coming weeks as they prepare for Premier League football.

As for N'Diaye, he will return to Villarreal this summer but first will play in the World Cup after he was named in Senegal's 23-man squad for Russia.

The Verdict

This would have been a very tough decision for Wolves as N'Diaye was a perfect squad player over the season.

He didn't complain and did his job when called upon, providing some big moments and was certainly appreciated by those at the club.

However, Wolves are linked with several big name signings and clearly they feel they can bring in better players for their Premier League campaign.
