According to a report in the Mirror, Wolverhampton Wanderers have deals agreed to sign Diogo Jota and Leo Bonatini permanently for a combined total of £17m, and could move to secure the future of the on-loan duo as early as the January transfer window.

Jota and Bonatini both joined Wolves on a season-long loan over the summer transfer window, from Porto and Al-Hilal respectively, and during their time at Molineux so far this season, both have made a positive impression as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side continue to excel in the Sky Bet Championship.

Wolves could look to secure the permanent signing of both Jota and Bonatini in January, paying £12m for Portuguese forward Jota and £5m for Bonatini.

So far this season, Jota has scored seven Championship goals and assisted a further three, whilst Bonatini is the Championship’s top scorer, having found the net on 10 occasions. The Brazilian has also assisted a further four.

The duo have formed one of the Championship’s most exciting attacking partnerships, and have played a crucial role in helping Wolves to the top of the Championship table heading out of November’s international break.

Nuno’s side have a two-point lead over Sheffield United, and return to Championship action this coming weekend, when they face Reading at the Madejski Stadium.

The Verdict

This is terrific news for Wolves, and if they can secure deals for Jota and Bonatini in January, it will hand everyone at Molineux a boost heading into the second-half of the season.

The duo have looked phenomenal so far this season, and the reported fees to pay will make both look like an absolute bargain – particularly Bonatini at £5m.

Bonatini has scored plenty of goals and added assists so far this season, and has proved to be the Championship’s standout striker, which not many expected.
