Wolves are eyeing up a move for Coventry City youngster Ben Stevenson who would join up with the Championship clubs development side initially.

The 20-year old has made a name for himself with the Sky Blues over the past 18 months and Wanderers are interested according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

He states the midfielder would join the U23 side at first although Wolves see the player as a very bright prospect.

Stevenson has played 33 games for the Sky Blues although the majority of those appearances came last season in League One.

During this campaign, the youngster has made just five appearances in the league although he did play half an hour in the memorable 2-1 FA Cup victory over Stoke City at the start of the month.

Despite those lack of appearances, Stevenson is highly regarded at Coventry. Technically gifted and comfortable on the ball, he has drawn comparisons at times for former City star James Maddison.

Reports earlier in the window suggested that Wigan Athletic were showing a keen interest in Stevenson but they may now be gazumped by the Championship leaders.

The Verdict

Wolves have made a lot of similar signings over the years and are a fine club for younger players to join and develop.

Whether Stevenson would prefer to stay and try and play for Coventry, or indeed move elsewhere, remains to be seen but if Wolves come calling then the club are sure to accept a reasonable fee.

Fans of the Black Country may not be too excited by this at the moment but Stevenson has the potential to develop into a classy player.
