Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in signing Lewis Grabban on a permanent deal this month, according to Sky Sports News.

Lewis Grabban was last night recalled from his season long loan spell with Sunderland by parent club Bournemouth after a mutual agreement was made between the two clubs to terminate his deal prematurely.

The 29-year-old had netted 12 goals in 20 appearances for the Black Cats so far this season, including a strike in his last game for the club against Birmingham before Christmas, but he told Sunderland that he no longer wished to play for them.

Grabban leaves with Chris Coleman's men rooted to the bottom of the Sky Bet Championship table.

But Wolves are hoping to bring the former Norwich City striker to the club in the January window as they look for strength in depth up front.

Nuno Espirito Santo's men are storming ahead at the top of the league and look certain to win promotion to the Premier League.

But they want to add another face up top to ensure that their forwards do not suffer burnout and Grabban is a target.

After landing Rafa Mir from Valencia last week, Grabban would be their third option up top to rotate with Leo Bonatini.

The Verdict

Wolves do not need to sign Lewis Grabban - he is not as good as Bonatini and they should give chances to Mir and Bright Enobakhare ahead of him.

Grabban has never cut it in the Premier League and a large number of his Sunderland strikes were from the penalty spot.

His tally of twelve goals flatters him and his all-round play is not good enough for the Championship leaders.
