There's a lot of positivity surrounding Wolverhampton Wanderers at the moment following their victory over Aston Villa which put them top of the league. Nuno Espirito Santo's men produced a fabulous display and were too good for their rivals on the day.

Club legend Steve Bull was full of praise for the team and declared it one of the most complete performances he can remember from the Black Country team. “The win against Villa was one of the best I've seen from a Wolves team in a very long time. Some of the football on show was exceptional and Wolves were teasing Villa like a baby with a rattle,” he wrote in his Express & Star column.

Another pleasing factor was the crowd. Over 30,000 people packed out Molineux in what was the biggest crowd their since 1981 and the former England international was impressed with the noise made. “The atmosphere at Molineux was electrifying and the best I've heard since that game against Crystal Palace in the play-offs in 1997.” There's sure to be another big attendance this weekend as Wolves welcome Preston as they aim to extend their league at the top.

The Verdict

That's very high praise from Steve Bull who has been a regular watching Wolves since he finished playing. However, you can't really argue with him. The football was terrific, with Ruben Neves influential in the middle and it really was a step up from what fans have seen. Of course, it's only one game and there's a massive season ahead, but it's easy to see why Bull and all other Wolves fans are so excited with this team.
