Wolves legend Steve Bull praised the current side for their consistency over the season and took a little swipe at Aston Villa in the process.

The West Midlands rivals met last week in what was an eagerly anticipated game, with Villa emerging 4-1 winners, cutting the gap on the leaders to just seven points.

However, they failed to back that win up in the week, losing 3-1 to QPR whilst Wolves got back to winning ways convincingly against Reading.

And, writing in his regular Express & Star column, Bull was pleased Wolves responded and suggested Villa couldn’t match the consistency of their rivals.

We said ‘listen, we’re not just a one-game wonder, we are a season wonder – we’re not like Villa – we are doing it more or less every game’.”

Without me being biased, that was the best Villa have played in four years. But you have got to do it week-in, week-out and their defeat against QPR shows they can’t do that. We can do it. We have sustained it and that’s why we are where we are.

The Verdict

This will no doubt please Wolves fans and you have to say there’s an element of truth in what Bull says.

The fixtures on Tuesday night were big for both sides, with both expected to win. Wolves proved they could cope with that pressure, Villa couldn’t.

Of course, there’s still time for many twists and turns but that loss in the week was a major setback for Bruce’s men.
