Championship side Wolves have launched a substantial bid in excess of £10 million for PSV Eindhoven forward Jurgen Locadia, reports today’s Daily Mirror Live Blog (12.23am).

The 23-year-old came up through the ranks at the Eredivisie outfit to earn his senior debut for the club back in 2011, when he came on as a second half substitute in their 8-0 Dutch Cup success over VVSB.

And the former Netherlands youth international has since gone from strength to strength with an impressive 54 goals in 163 games for the club, although his 2016/17 campaign was blighted by injuries, with Locadia finishing with just three goals in 14 games for the Dutch giants.

Nonetheless, his fine goal-scoring record over the past few years appears to have attracted the interest of Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who has reportedly launched a bid in excess of £10 million for the 23-year-old.

The Midlands outfit have spent big over the summer in a bid to sustain a promotion push in the Championship this season, and in turn seek a return to the Premier League for the first time since 2012.

Yet with Nouha Dicko moving to Hull City earlier this week, Nuno Santo has been left slightly short of striking options, and has seemingly turned to Dutchman Locadia in a bid to bolster those ranks.

However, it has been reported that other sides are also interested in the 23-year-old, so it very much remains to be seen whether Wolves are able to get a deal done before today’s 11pm deadline.

The Verdict: For all of Wolves’ big spending during the close season, they are still slightly short on forward options, and that is even more so evident now following the departure of Nouha Dicko to Hull City.

Yet manager Nuno Espirito Santo is unlikely to have sanctioned his departure if he didn’t have a replacement lined up, and that replacement could be PSV Eindhoven’s Jurgen Locadia who, apart from an injury-ravaged campaign last term, has impressed in the Eredivisie over the years.

The 23-year-old, who can also play out wide, could be the ideal man to lead the line for Wolves in the Championship this season if they get a deal over the line before 11pm tonight.
