Premier League Wolves have emerged as the latest club to show an interest in signing Birmingham City youngster Romello Mitchell.

The teenage striker has been linked with a move to the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United in recent months, but according to Alan Nixon, Midlands rivals Wolves are now entering the race to sign the youngster.

Mitchell has yet to break into the first team for Garry Monk's men this season but is highly thought of by all the coaching staff at St Andrews after putting in some superb performances for the youth teams this term.

The 16-year-old has been catching the eye with some excellent forward play and goalscoring ability and Wolves are clearly keen on attracting the the young star to Molineux ahead of the likes of United and Liverpool, where first team opportunities are bound to be hard to come by.

Wolves will be looking to add some of the top young talent in the country as they cement their place in the top flight and build for the future.

Birmingham will be keen to keep hold of Mitchell though, but will be aware that they could be powerless to resist the temptations of Premier League riches.

The Verdict

It always amazes me when big clubs come sniffing round players who haven't even done anything in the first team yet, but that's the way it is I guess now.

Mitchell is clearly a talent but there's a long way to go for him in terms of becoming a top pro.

However, it's low risk for any Premier League side, and Wolves might be a smart move for the youngster out of the options available.
