Wolves are keen on signing Reading striker Danny Loader, with the forward unwilling to sign a new contract with the Championship club, according to journalist Joe Edwards.

The 18-year-old was able to establish himself in the first team at Reading last season and scored one goal in 21 Championship appearances for the Royals, but he is in the final year of his contract at the Madejski Stadium.

Reading are determined to keep hold of the highly-rated striker and are trying to persuade him to sign a new deal, but he has been unwilling to do so.

Loader came through the academy at Reading and made his debut for the Royals in an EFL Cup win over Millwall in 2017/18.

After a prolific spell for Reading Under-23s, he was called up to the first-team squad again last season and his impressive performances saw him keep his place in the side.

Reading finished 20th in the Championship last season and will be hoping to challenge further up the table this term, although they lost their opening game of the season 3-1 to Sheffield Wednesday.

The Verdict

This has got to be considered a concern for Reading. Loader is an exciting young player and he could have a bright future ahead of him.

He was already reluctant to sign a new contract, so there's every chance that the striker could have his head turned by the chance to play in the Premier League.

He clearly doesn't want to sign a new deal, so Reading are now under pressure to sell the striker otherwise they risk losing him for free and it would be a major disappointment for them to lose a player of his quality and potential for nothing.
